French tourist dies in Death Valley after car gets stuck in mud

A 68‑year‑old French tourist, Pierre Michel Formosa, died in Death Valley after his car became stuck in mud on West Side Road and he was forced to walk across the salt flats in 116 °F (46.6 °C) heat. Formosa and his traveling companion attempted to seek assistance after the vehicle stalled, but the extreme temperature halted the older man after about 1.3 miles. The companion managed to flag down another driver, while rangers and police later found Formosa dead on the flats and pronounced him deceased on the scene.
