Our Core Principles

Independence

Editorial decisions are made solely by our editors. No advertiser, government, owner or external party influences our coverage. Commercial teams have no access to editorial planning.

Accuracy

Every factual claim must be verified by a minimum of two independent, credible sources. Statistics must be cited. Data visualisations must link to primary sources.

Impartiality

News articles present all significant viewpoints on contested issues. Opinion and analysis are clearly distinguished from news reporting with explicit labels.

Humanity

We minimise harm. We do not identify victims without consent, do not sensationalise suffering, and apply heightened care to stories involving children, trauma and death.

Source Standards

  • Anonymous sources are used only when the information is of significant public interest and cannot be obtained on the record.
  • All anonymous source arrangements must be approved by a senior editor.
  • We never pay sources for news tips or interviews.
  • Source identities are protected absolutely. Even under legal compulsion, we exhaust all legal avenues before any disclosure.
  • AI-generated content is never published as original reporting. AI may be used as a research tool, but all published text is written and verified by humans.

Conflicts of Interest

  • Journalists must disclose any financial, personal or professional interest in subjects they cover.
  • Reporters may not accept gifts, travel, meals or other benefits from sources or organisations they cover, unless pre-approved and disclosed.
  • Editorial staff may not hold material financial positions in companies they write about.
  • We do not accept payment for editorial coverage. Advertiser relationships are disclosed where relevant.

Complaints & Corrections

We correct errors promptly and prominently. Our public corrections log records every significant correction we have made. To report an inaccuracy, contact our Standards Editor at standards@newseffects.com.

If you are not satisfied with our response, you may escalate to IPSO (UK), the Press Council (Ireland) or your national press regulator.
